Robyna May has degrees in IT and Law. Unusually she has integrated her It and Law
degrees in many different roles. She has a very good understanding of how law firms
work and how technology can support them. She has worked as a project manager,
IT manager, knowledge director, legal firm practice manager, technical consultant
and software developer. She regularly writes and presents on topics associated with
the intersection of IT and law.
Joining me to interview Robyna is Susan Bryant who worked with Robyna when they
were both at Cooper Grace Ward
Robyna talks about:
Why women were less likely than men to pursue an IT degree when she
commenced studies;
Why she chose to study law rather than journalism;
Why she chose to pursue a career in IT rather than practising as a lawyer;
How critical thinking skills acquired during her law degree have provided
tangible benefits in pursuing a career in IT;
Work life balance with small children;
What makes a good employer, lessons from Cooper Grace Ward;
The difference between working for a large law firm, a boutique firm and
consulting;
How to maintain passion when the the completion of a project will result in
the loss of your employment;
Moving from working in and around law firms to a company focused on on
providing technological solutions to all businesses not just legal ones; and
How a supportive partner can make it easier to take risks in your career
